Jerico^®'s New Y2K Transmission

Jerico^®'s new lightweight Y2K transmission is based on the original Jerico^® 4-speed with several new features. The biggest is its reduction in weight. That means both static and rotational weight are lowered. Jobber price of $4,195 includes the aluminum case and the caged roller bearings in the tailhousing.

In the photo above is a cut-away view of the Y2K. The Jerico^®'s Y2K comes with gears having a width of only 0.75 inches. The original set of gears comes in widths that range from 1.04 inches to 1.15 inches.

The bottom set of gears is out of the standard Jerico^® 4-speed transmission. The top set is from the newly designed lightweight Y2K 4-speed. The Y2K gears have been redesigned to provide less weight and less frictional loss.

This side-by-side comparison shows the reduction in the size of the gears. Pictured on top is the new Y2K cluster shaft, and below is the standard cluster shaft. The reduction in width of the new design is clear.

The counter shaft on the top of this photo is the standard Jerico^® design and uses individually packed needle bearings. The new design (on the bottom) uses four sets of caged roller bearings. this provides a greater surface area to the bearings, which in turn provides long life, improved efficiency, and greater load-carrying capacity.

Another improvement provided by the Jerico^® Y2K is the addition of double-row caged bearings on the hardened slip yoke. These bearings replace the bushings used in the standard four-speed design.
